Greater Good Member Community Meeting
Next Meeting scheduled May 8th from 7 PM to 9 PM at new location
The monthly GGSC Member Meet-Up was held on Wednesday April 10th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. This meeting was held at our new, larger location is at the Strawberry Creek Design Center, 1250 Addison St. in Berkeley. The meeting was opened with a 10 minute meditation which allowed us to become present and grounded. The meditation focused on 6 aspects of Love.
- Imagine something that you love
- Imagine someone who you love
- Imagine loving God
- Imagine being loved by someone
- Imagine loving yourself
- Imagine being loved by God
The members were asked to share their personal interests and what they expected from the group. A general discussion focused on the desire for practical hands-on experiences to tap into our own compassionate selves. We learn better when we are involved and in relationship with (embodied) the experience.
Kim Cohn Wilks’ lead the group in a playful exercise. She created a paradoxical play space using a model of challenge/anxiety/boredom/safety.
The Greater Good Science Center invites members of our new monthly Meet-Up to our third meeting on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m.,
The Greater Good Meetup will be held at a new location this month, with more room to handle more attendees. And, since the goal of the meetup is to make people happier and to feel more fulfilled, please feel free to invite a friend who you think would like to feel happier!
Our new, larger location is at NextNow Collaboratory at the Strawberry Creek Design Center, 1250 Addison St. in Berkeley. This looks over, and is at the NW corner of, Strawberry Creek Park. This site has plenty of parking, and is close to the freeway. The building is made of red bricks and is right at the Corner of Addison St and Bonar St. To get upstairs, walk up the exterior wooden stairs that are on the East side of the building on Addison, overlooking the park. Then pass through the door into the upstairs courtyard. Our meeting space is the Collaboratory, the first office you’ll come to as you walk across the outdoor boardwalk.
This month’s meetup will include a program by Jay Cross on how to develop a practice of happiness, and Kim Cohn Wilks’ ice breaker and playful exercises. We’ll also share some exciting announcements for upcoming meetups, engage in conversation and, as always, check to see if others have contributions they would like to share in the future.
I hope you can join us this month; if you have not yet RSVP’d, just email Tony Thayer with “RSVP” in the subject line.
Meet-Ups are informal and led by GGSC volunteers and members.
Please feel free to bring light refreshments.

Just for fun – here’s an amusing video on how movements get started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=256eKjULdgQ
Greater Good Science Center. Their site is so positive about life that it will put a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Find articles, video, book reviews, news briefs, and announcements of events there.
Unaffiliated. The Center has a sharing relationship with the University of California Berkeley but is neither endowed by nor affiliated with our brainy neighbors on campus. Similarly, this GGSC Member Community is an independent learning community. We do not speak for GGSC. We are unofficial.
